Japan has become a 'go to' destination for Australians in the last 12 months. In fact, Japan has reported record numbers of visitors from Australia in the last year.

So, at Champagne Travel Finance we thought we would see what all of the fuss was about - and it did not disappoint.

Japan is an amazing country with so much to see and do to the point that one trip just won't cut it. Cites like Tokyo, Osaka and our personal favourite - Kyoto, have so much to see and do that you need to spend weeks in each.

Here are a few of our hot tips when visiting Japan:

  • Pay the extra for first class in the Bullet Train - it is worth every cent

  • Visit the Shinto Shrine - but wear hiking shoes!

  • The Nishiki Market is an assault on the tastebuds (but a really good one!)

  • Visit the Higashiyama District - book in a tea ceremony while you are there.

  • Rent a bike and ride the streets.

  • Check out Wagyu Ramen Syoman right next to the Imperial Palace. Yum!

  • The egg sandwiches from the Family Mart are divine!!!!

Our Highlight:

We visited Japan in July. This time of year has its pluses and minuses. On the minus side - it is hot and wet. But we are Aussies, so we are used to that.

On the plus side, we got to be a part of the Gion Matsuri Festival. What an experience. Millions of people and the streets are full of music, food and Japanese culture. An amazing experience.

Where we stayed:

In Kyoto we stayed in the Blossom Hotel and we can't speak highly enough. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were stunning, and the lemon sours hit the spot.

In Tokyo, we recommend the Prince Shiomi Hotel at Tokyo Bay. It is a 20-minute cab ride to the city and the restaurant serves a wagyu steak that makes you want to go back for more.
